It’s really hard sometimes to not judge people. It might even be something ingrained in our DNA.
I wish I could look at someone else and just see their spirit – not the trappings of flesh and circumstance. Wouldn’t you just love to read someone else’s mind, or know their life story with just a single meeting of the eyes?
Many people look at another person and judge their weight, their voice, the clothes that they wear, and with that information give them an automatic negative without really giving that person a chance. What is this really accomplishing though? By deriding someone who doesn’t look like or act like them, they may be missing out on a fabulous relationship. And maybe that person doesn’t mean to look goofy and is just doing the best they can with what knowledge they have.
Sometimes I think that the people in our lives are actually mirrors reflecting who we are. One person in my life who always seems to judge me, is exactly like the little critic in my head who does the same thing. Another person who is a wise and kind friend, is just like what I most aspire to be.
And I really do wish people could see each other’s spirits. How could rape happen, if someone could really see the awesome power of another person? How could child abuse or murders happen if someone watched the inner world of the spirit break into a million tiny shards of glass?
People ARE ugly, but they are beautiful too. And I believe that almost all people have more inner beauty than inner ugliness. Ugliness is an everyday choice that one doesn’t have to take. Be limited by the here and now if you must – but remember:
1. Each person’s thoughts, since the time they were first born, are for them and them alone – a complete mystery to us. We can never fully know or understand the hopes, dreams, thoughts and sorrows that another carries.
2. Likewise, we cannot ever know anyone else fully in all senses of the word.
3. Change is possible even in the most hard-headed.
4. Beauty is still, as beauty does….
I wish more people would try looking at someone else with compassion, and see their essential spirit. The beauty of the soul can sometimes be found in the most unlikely looking packages….
All best,
Rose
