Fear of Death

Fear of death is really common. It pushes people to do crazy things in an effort to be as immortal as possible. Our society is fascinated with youth and health. Many commercials seem to be about not looking old, staying young, and fear about things that could possibly go wrong with you.

But what is there, really to fear? We are all going to go some time. I can virtually promise. And… we’re all going to get old, and most likely, look old. I’ve seen people who’ve had plastic surgery, and even though their skin and features look young… they still look just about their age. How is that possible?

For a fun gag, to see how you’ll look when you’re older, try this site: http://morph.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/Transformer/index.html

I guess the only thing I can recommend for the fear of death, is to look at it directly in the face. Are you afraid of death? Read up as much as you can on philosophical or religious books of your choice, NDE’s and other things that relate to it. Don’t back away from your fear, because whether or not you think it affects you, it will. If subconsciously your fears base on a fear of death or growing old, you should face it head on, or you will subconsciously act with those fears in mind.

Since you already know it’s going to happen, why fight it? Learn as much as you can, and then let it go. Fears that don’t serve you, don’t need to exist.

Best Wishes,

Rose

I'll admit it, I'm afraid of death. It's out of a fear of the unknown AND that threescore and ten is a little like getting kicked out of a concert before the opening act even finishes the first song. I'm just getting going, here. I've barely got my shit together and now it's time to die???? Obviously, I'm not 70 yet, but I have SOOOOOOOO much I want to do! I don't see how 100 years would be enough.

Maybe I'm just being a whiner. Regardless, I'm crossing the old fingers and hoping these guys make some serious progress.

Nice links Dan! Thanks for your thoughts! I get tired of talking to myself on here – lol.

My family tends to die young, so I always keep that in mind. For me, it's not a fear of death, but an understanding that life is fleeting.

You're not a whiner – you totally rock for taking time out to read my blog. :D

I feel very much like Dan. For me fear of death takes the form of fearing the unknown. The thought of leaving this earth as a failiure and the more I think that I will never be a child again, the more distressed I become. Now I am rather fine talking about it, although it comes and goes in phases :)

I understand that, hon, very much. Maybe I'm the odd one – lol – not the first time!

And thanks for coming to read my blog – I really appreciate it!
