Birthdays

It’s my little sister’s birthday today, Happy Birthday Sis! Some people love birthdays, others hate them – some can go either way. Love ‘em, Like ‘em, or Leave ‘em, whatever it is, we all have an opinion about birthdays.

People who hate their birthday’s are interesting, because I always wonder why, and the stories are diverse. Sometimes it’s a family tradition not to make a big deal on birthday’s, or not to make a big deal of them once you get older. To some people birthday’s are only for kids, and others it’s a sign of impending age.

I don’t really care if you hate birthday’s – I’m going to celebrate you on your birthday, whether you know it or not. There’s a lack of love in many people’s life, and a birthday is really about that special day when you came into existence. Maybe you’re terrified of turning a year older, or start looking for your nearest age sign. Whatever. A birthday is a chance to take stock of what is best in you – what the best things are about you, and even a chance to make a commitment to yourself for a better year this time than the year before.

Whenever your birthday is, give yourself the day to be special. Dress up. Do something just for you that you have really been wanting to do. Take stock of your life, and choose to keep the good and throw out the old. Take the opportunity to be grateful for the good things about you and that you’ve brought into life – a healthy self-esteem isn’t selfish, it’s… healthy.

Above all, someone should be glad you’re alive on your birthday. Even if it’s you!

Happy Birthday to all my readers, whenever your birthday is.

I’m glad you’re alive today. You’re all special to someone.

Love,

Rose

At first in the office I would never mention it, but then one friend would find out and they came individually by my desk to ask why if we were friends would I not tell them about such an important day. Growing up it was always spent with family, I didn't have many friends so I was in the habit of staying silent. That was a lesson in friendship and I was happy to know they cared. My brother who lives with me explained to my father once that since they live so far away we have no need to celebrate our birthdays…because everyday feels like a celebration we get along so well.

I love that! How awesome! You sound like you've got such a blessing by having such a loving family!
