Random Thoughts about 4-Digit IQ’s

My 5 digit IQ - don't be jealous!

Ok.. so talk about random thoughts….

So, I just watched the movie, ‘Limitless’ the other day, and while I thought the movie was ok, the idea of a 4 digit IQ really stuck in my head.  What would you do with a 4-digit IQ?  What would I do?

Besides light fires with our piercing gazes (Obviously)?

My instantaneous thought was that I would develop a new way of speaking that took less effort but said more – less sound, and more breath – or something like that.  I don’t know why I thought that, or even thought that first with apparently no effort (maybe my subconscious was thinking my social skills need some work… it’s hard to tell). Anyway, for me, the idea of this 4-digit IQ is fun to think about.

I actually know someone with an extremely large IQ (but, sadly, not 4 digits).  And by a large IQ, I mean larger than most people’s.  And as far as I can tell, he spends his time constantly creating math problems to solve in his everyday life, or just trying not to think! So, what good would a 4-digit IQ do for him?

As for me – I am already someone who does 3 or 4 things at once – what in the world could I do with a higher IQ that I don’t do now?

Well, all I can think of is that even with a higher IQ, we’d still be lacking in the areas we’re lacking in, so, for me, trig is probably still out of the picture – not that I wouldn’t be able to understand it, but that I probably still wouldn’t have an interest.  Yawnzilla.  But, writing an unbreakable code?    Hmmm… Now that I bet I could do and have fun with.  I’m guessing I’d still be a terrible singer and musician… but, maybe not.  Could an extra digit make me an amazing musician? (Punny!)

See, here is another problem I have with this idea – let’s say we do take a ‘smart pill’ that allows us to use all of our brain…

First of all, I’ve never been convinced that we don’t use all of it – I think it’s an urban legend that science just hasn’t caught on to that yet – but consciously using all of your brain?  So… you would be conscious of your circulatory system, and the pattern of your blood flow, your serotonin and estrogen levels, your heart beating, etc – and if you didn’t think of it, it would just have to stop?  How much sense does that make?

Probably this is reading too much into one line of a movie – but inspiration has frequently happened on much less.  What would you do with a 4-digit IQ?

Happy thinking,

Rose
