Mama and Kitten are going under the knife on Friday. Their inability to have kittens will be offset by their hopefully more calm demeanor after not being in heat anymore! I’ve never had female cats that weren’t spayed pretty early on before – cats in heat are obnoxious!
When in doubt, I research. The ladies are indoors, so I wasn’t in a rush to get them spayed – until they both started cycling through heat, one after another…. Cats crying like a baby cries all night long doesn’t make for restful sleep.
I looked up ways to keep them from crying – nothing, either natural or unnatural. I did read some horrible sounding thing someone did with a q-tip, but, errr, no thank you. Our poor male cat, who has been neutered for a long time now, just looks depressed when they start going into heat.
Getting cats spayed in Minnesota is ridiculously expensive. $180 each! They had low cost vet clinics in both Michigan and in Albuquerque, and I miss those dearly. I’ve arranged to go with a Humane Society service that is for lower-income folks that is ‘only’ going to be $60 per cat. I got the boy neutered, micro-chipped and all of his shots for less than that in New Mexico, but different locales I guess – plus females might be more expensive because of being ‘innies’ rather than ‘outies’ – lol. I’m not convinced Minnesota is all that cat friendly anyway. Where I live there is a ‘no cats outside without a leash’ clause, which I think is damn silly. Assuming I could afford it, why couldn’t I have an electric fence? Silly, silly, silly.
Speaking of which Mama cat’s name is Silly, and kitten’s is Cookie. Odd names, but they fit their personalities.
What does this blog have to do with self-help? Nothing, unless it’s to your mental sanity to get your female cats spayed. I love kittens, but unless I’m willing to raise 8 more cats (and I’m not), I don’t believe in not spaying your animals. As cute as they are, you’ve got to make sure you’ve got good homes already for them. Even indoor cats can sneak out.
And a lady cat in heat is just a hussy.
So, how’s this blog for randomness? LOL.
All best to you,
Rose
